Susan’s Journey to Self-Understanding & Advocacy

Updated: Nov 12

Imagine spending years trying to connect with the people around you, only to feel like you’re speaking a different language.

Now, imagine discovering—decades later—that there was a reason for all of those disconnects, and that reason could finally bring you peace, understanding, and a whole community who gets you.

That’s Susan Golubock’s story. In this heartfelt conversation, Susan, our founder, opens up about her late autism diagnosis and the journey of discovering who she really is. It’s a story of acceptance, belonging, and the powerful bonds we create when we choose to truly listen.

As a child, Susan enjoyed her own quiet world. It wasn’t until school that she started noticing how “different” she was, and she couldn’t understand why nobody explained things in a way that made sense to her.

Years later, a late diagnosis of autism changed everything. Susan finally had a reason for the struggles she’d faced—a reason that validated her entire experience. And in finding a community of other autistic individuals, she experienced something even more meaningful: belonging. “It was like a light switched on,” she shares. “Now, I finally understand myself and why I experience the world differently.”

What does it really mean to understand and accept someone, exactly as they are?

For Susan, that acceptance didn’t come easy—but it’s the reason she now dedicates her life to sharing her story, so others don’t have to wait as long as she did to feel seen and valued. If you’re ready to see the world through Susan’s eyes, to learn about the beauty of neurodiversity, and to discover the power of listening, watch our full conversation. Susan’s insights will challenge you, move you, and maybe even change the way you connect with the people around you.
