Why Everything You've Been Taught About Autism Support Might Be Making Things Harder

A one-hour course that shifts the way you see autism — and changes what you do next.

Most autism support is built around fixing what's "wrong." But what if the behaviors you're trying to change are actually your child's (or client's) best attempt at communicating something important?

This course introduces the Neuro-Strengths-Based Support for Autism (NSBSA) Framework — a research-informed approach that helps parents and professionals stop fighting autistic neurology and start working with it.

IN THIS ONE HOUR COURSE WE WILL COVER:

Why some common support strategies — even well-meaning ones — can actually increase stress and shutdown for autistic individuals

The difference between teaching splinter skills and supporting real understanding — and which one actually sticks

How to shift from focusing on "deficits" to recognizing and building on genuine autistic strengths (and why that shift changes everything)

Why rewards-based motivation often backfires, and how to support self-motivation that lasts

How to read behavior as communication — so you can respond to the need, not just the behavior

Why planning with autistic individuals

(not for them) leads to better outcomes for everyone

Who made this — and why it matters

This course was created by  Susan Golubock (autistic Occupational Therapist) and Staci Neustadt, Speech-Language Pathologist, the founders of the NSBSA Framework. Together, they've spent years working directly with autistic individuals and the families and professionals who support them — and they've seen firsthand what happens when support stops fighting neurology and starts honoring it.

The NSBSA Framework isn't a theory. It's a complete rethinking of how we understand and support autistic people, grounded in research and lived autistic experience.

“My biggest 'ah ha' moment was that I need to collaborate more WITH my autistic client instead of making choices for them."

PT, grandparent of a child with autism and ADHD

"My 'aha' moment while listening was realizing how important it is to tie activities to something that really matters to the client. I appreciate the content being presented from the lens the autistic individual."

SLPA

“I found it helpful to learn about supporting and targeting potential strengths instead of attempting to "change" them.  I want to better serve my autistic clients and build on what they can do and this helped me do that.”

OT
